Once upon a time, Grannie Pattie took Torren to visit cousin Agnes Mayes. When Torren noticed the plants bordering the driveway, he saw they were thick with long, slender blades. Pointing at these funny leaves he exclaimed, “Look, Grannie! Noodle garden. Noodles!”

6:30...
At 6:30am this morning Torren climbs into my bed and whispers: “Mommy, my body wants to do pushups.”

Sensitive Guy...
Rob,
Maggie, Lee, and Amelia came for a visit this weekend, staying with the
Mayrs. Katie put Rob to frying the bacon for breakfast this
morning. I met Torren in the hall and he said, “Hi Grannie. My
sense of smell smells bacon.”
Heaven...
Yesterday I picked up Torren from school to take him to his swim lesson. We were talking about how he is growing up, and I asked him if he couldn’t just stay a little boy? He said no, that he is a big boy, and that when he gets to be the age of Klaus he can do anything he wants. I replied that he can do a lot more things but not everything he wants. Then he said when he grows up he can do anything he wants. I told him even grownups don’t get to do everything they want. He thought about that for a moment and then said, “When I’m in Heaven then I can do anything I want!” I agreed that yes, he probably can then.
Double the Pleasure...
While we were eating Friday night Uli said something sarcastic
and I told Torren that Papa was mean and that I am going to trade him in for a
new Papa and asked him what he thought about that. He said “I like that Papa.”
Paused to eat another bit of dinner. “Maybe we can have two?”
Miss Lois- Grannie Post
I picked up Torren from school one afternoon last week. On our way to the car he mentioned Miss Lois, a former resident of Statesville Place, along with Torren’s great-grandfather Charles. Miss Lois used to give Torren a Tootsie Pop every time we visited. She passed away last year. He asked me why Miss Lois died and I told him it was partly because she was so old and had gotten sicker. I followed up by trying to explain that now she’s in Heaven and not sick or hurting anymore and probably going into more detail than necessary. I got to a point where I was at a loss for words and Torren finished my sentence for me. I started to say she was in a better body now but that didn’t seem exactly right and I had paused after saying “better.” Torren supplied the exact right word – “world.” Miss Lois is in a better world now
Yes, but not every day...
Last night, Torren was in the car with Addie and I was taking them to
the mall to get some valentine’s gifts. I saw a man in the neighboring car
really digging into his nose…
Me: “Ewwww! That guy is Nasty, over there picking his nose- yuck! “
Addie: “I don’t pick my nose, I blow it.”
Me: “ Good job Addie- that’s great!”
Torren: “I don’t pick my nose either.”
Addie: “Yes you do. You do pick your nose.”
Torren paused and replied: “Not every day…”
